One year since the March 11 earthquake, an award winning Filipino documentary program, I-witness, visited Iwate Prefecture in Japan. They interviewed not only Filipinos but also Japanese residents of a coastal area devastated by the tsunami.

PAGBANGON NG JAPAN

I-Witness Documentary Special by Kara David

Airing date: February 27, 2012

The country's leading network GMA and Japan 's TV-Iwate will join forces to produce a major documentary special filmed entirely on location in Iwate, Japan. GMA's flagship documentary program I-Witness in partnership with TV-Iwate presents a special episode in time for the one year anniversary of Japan's devastating earthquake and tsunami which shocked the world on March 11, 2011.
GMA's documentary team will collaborate with TV-Iwate's production crew and director to film the aftermath of the earthquake and the efforts being undertaken to rebuild the devastated areas. Filipino communities recovering from the disaster will be documented, along with their efforts at rebuilding their lives and communities.
Japan's Iwate Prefecture was one of the worst hit by the Great Eastern Japan earthquake in 2011, and GMA's partner station TV-Iwate was among the first on the site during the March 11 tsunami. TV Iwate's footage of the tsunami - as it engulfed homes and villages - will serve as powerful reminders of what transpired on that fateful day. And as veteran documentarist and George Foster Peabody awardee Kara David sets foot on these "ground zeros" a year later, viewers will witness the rebuilding of lives and homes after the great quake.
In Rikuzen Takata, Kara meets Sally Murakami, a Filipina who lost all possessions to the tsunami.   Despite her tragic experience, Sally remains optimistic as she slowly rebuilds her life.  Other Filipinos who suffered the same fate share their stories as well - stories that show faith, hope, and  solidarity among those who endured the 3/11 tragedy.
