New Optical Fiber Boosts Transmission Capacity By 1,000 Times
ＮＴＴとフジクラ、デンマーク工科大学などは、インターネットの通信容量を大幅に増やす光ファイバーを開発した。現在実用化されている光ファイバーの 1000倍にあたる毎秒１ペタ（ペタは1000兆）ビットの情報を送れる。ハイビジョン映画約5000本を１秒で送れる換算。ペタ到達は世界初で、大容量 通信に対応する次世代の光ファイバーに技術を活用する。
TOKYO (Nikkei)--Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (9432) and three others have jointly developed an optical fiber with 1,000 times the data transmission capacity of technology used in today's optical networks.
